A mortgage broker is an individual who acts as an
associate for either a licensed mortgage broker business or a properly licensed
lender. A licensed mortgage broker is authorized to solicit mortgage loans on
behalf of a borrower, to accept an application, and to negotiate terms and
conditions of a mortgage loan on behalf of a lender.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high
school diploma or its equivalent, be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and of good
character.
The process for obtaining your Mortgage Broker’s License is
quite simple:
 |
Apply online for a Mortgage Broker Associate
License and schedule your test date.
The Florida Department of Financial Services oversees the licensing of
mortgage brokers, correspondent lenders and lenders. Visit:
https://real.flofr.com to apply for
the license and select a test date/location. The fee for the Department
of Financial Services to process your application and the fingerprint
card is $242.25.
The monthly test is given the 4th Tuesday of the month except November
and December when it is usually given the 2nd Tuesday of the month. You
must schedule your own test date. Scheduling closes two weeks prior to
the day of the test or when the test location is full. The earlier you
schedule your test date, the better chance of testing at your preferred
location. If you fail or miss the first test date, you must reschedule.
You only have 90 days from the date of application to take the class,
have your fingerprint card processed and pass the state test.
